  • The WazirX hacker has transferred an additional $12 million, or 5000 ETH, to Tornado Cash.
  • The hacker’s address now holds approximately $61.76K in ETH, with a total of over $149 million in crypto assets.

The cryptocurrency community is still reeling from the shock of the Indian crypto exchange WazirX hack that happened on July 18, 2024. With a staggering loss of around $230 million, this incident has become the largest cryptocurrency hack of the year. As the company works towards recovery, WazirX hackers have drawn significant attention.

In a new twist, the hacker involved in the WazirX exploit has transferred nearly $12 million in stolen funds. According to Arkham Intelligence, the exploiter’s address moved 5000 ETH to Tornado Cash just three hours ago. This marks the second significant movement of funds since the initial hack. The hacker’s address, labeled “WazirX hacker,” now holds about $61.76K in ETH, with the wallet’s total assets exceeding $149 million.

After receiving the funds, the exploiter immediately sent 1,600 ETH (about $3.8 million) to a crypto mixer. They then transferred the remaining 3,399.92 ETH (around $8.19 million) in 16 separate transactions of 100 ETH each.

In a previous move, the WazirX hacker transferred over 2,000.1 ETH, worth around $6.5 million, to Tornado Cash on September 3.

WazirX’s Recovery Efforts and Ongoing Challenges

On the recovery front, WazirX has initiated the second phase of its withdrawal process. Users can now withdraw up to 66% of their INR balances. However, some users have reported issues, with withdrawals not functioning as expected, leading to dissatisfaction with the platform’s handling of the crisis.

However, in response to the crisis, WazirX has sought financial support from its parent company, Zettai. Zettai is currently in discussions with 11 other cryptocurrency exchanges to secure emergency funding. Additionally, WazirX has filed for a moratorium in the Singapore court to help stabilize the situation.

As WazirX navigates this challenging period, the spotlight remains on the platform’s recovery strategy and the ongoing movements of the WazirX hacker.
