With the end objective of assisting nations in achieving “sustainable development” progress, a United Nations organization is planning to train its 22,000 employees in blockchain technology. An announcement made public on November 30th said that the Algorand Foundation and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) would be launching a blockchain academy in 2024.
The academy will educate the 22,000 employees of the UNDP from 170 countries on distributed ledger technology and blockchain. Also, they will learn about its potential uses for digital identification applications, real-world asset tokenization, supply chain transparency, monetary inclusion, and more.
Tackle Complicated Difficulties
Moreover, the relationship would allow the agency to “upskill, empower, and inspire UN practitioners around the world,” UNDP’s specialist for alternative finance and low carbon development Robert Pasicko addressed those present at the Algorand Impact Summit in New Delhi, India.
Token dynamics, community-driven, open-source development on the Algorand ecosystem, and protocol governance are the main areas of concentration for the non-profit Algorand Foundation.
Pasicko further added that the staff will be prepared to tackle complicated global difficulties with blockchain technology thanks to the curriculum, which includes lectures, seminars, and practical projects.
Doro Unger-Lee, head of education and inclusion at the Algorand Foundation, echoed this sentiment, saying that education was the first and most important step in finding real-world applications of blockchain technology that might contribute to the SDGs across several domains.
Also, blockchain technology has been studied by the UN for a number of years now. Together with the Blockchain Charity Foundation (BCF), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) backed distributed ledger technology (DLT) for social benefit in 2018.
