The youth of the Philippines are being introduced to blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) via a government organization that focuses on scientific and technological research and development.

On September 20, the tech forum organized by the Philippines’ Department of Science and Technology-Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) invited young people to explore the possibilities of blockchain technology.

Next-generation Technology

The agency claims that both public and commercial organizations are seeing significant operational changes as a result of next-generation technology like blockchain, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.

According to the announcement, this event sought to inspire young people to see blockchain’s potential. And to see science, technology, and innovation as vital instruments for building a more equitable and sustainable future.

Moreover, in the beginning, the students who took part learned the fundamentals of blockchain technology. Also, Roxanne S. Aviñante, a senior scientific research expert at DOST-ASTI, portrayed blockchain as a new technology that is expected to provide a lot of employment opportunities.

Expert Marc Jerome T. Tulali of the DOST-ASTI elucidated NFTs and blockchain’s practical applications, including voting and immutable data storage. Moreover, he said that SIERRA, the Self-Sovereign Identity Empowerment: Reinventing Rights and Attributes system, is being developed by the Philippines as a means of regulating intellectual property.

Blockchain technology is not only used in the gaming and entertainment industry. But also in healthcare, the public sector, identification, decentralized finance, central bank digital currencies (CBDC), and physical infrastructure. This was taught to the students from the Philippines.

The federal government of the Philippines has begun exploring stablecoins. While the country’s young are also being prepared for digital upheaval powered by blockchain.
