Patrick Witt Delays Military Training to Lead White House Push for CLARITY Act

Patrick Witt Market News
  • Patrick Witt, the adviser at the White House, has put off his military duty in order to conduct important talks on the CLARITY Act before the August recess.
  • Harry Jung declared his resignation from his post, and thus Patrick Witt becomes indispensable within the council due to this.

The White House has recently upped the ante in working on the CLARITY Act, as the Senate will go into an August recess and so will keep its main adviser in the sphere of digital assets in town. The Executive Director of the President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, Patrick Witt, has postponed his military training with the Georgia Army National Guard in order to keep negotiating the groundbreaking crypto bill.

Witt was scheduled to start Judge Advocate General training on July 27; however, with the upcoming Senate recess starting on August 8, a small window for negotiation has been opened. The White House considers this period important for rallying behind the CLARITY Act, which is designed to develop clear rules regulating the digital asset market in the United States. This is not the first occasion when Witt is postponing his military service since he postponed training in April.

White House Sticks with Policy Leadership

As Witt remains the administration’s lead negotiator of digital asset policies, negotiations are still ongoing in coordination with lawmakers in Congress for what might be one of the biggest regulatory moves impacting the cryptocurrency industry. Witt’s continuity in his role ensures that there is leadership continuity in addressing remaining policy concerns before the Senate recesses.

The White House has made sure that it retains the experience in its policy leadership as the negotiations continue given the tight legislative schedule ahead. Witt’s continuance in Washington means he can still coordinate with lawmakers to pass legislation before the deadline.

Changes in Leadership Increase Relevance of Witt

The relevance of Witt is increasing since Deputy Director Harry Jung revealed that he is going to exit the government after two years of implementing U.S. digital assets policy. Initially, Jung had been planning to take care of all the executive duties while Witt was away for military training. Since Harry is now about to go, it will mean that Witt’s presence in Washington will ensure the continuation of leadership through a very important period for legislation. The administration continues working on the CLARITY Act before the August 8 Senate break.
