Olympic NFTs Featuring Mirabai Chanu Being Sold By WazirX Marketplace

Olympic NFTs Featuring Mirabai Chanu Being Sold By WazirX Marketplace NFT News

The WazirX NFT Marketplace is now offering a number of NFTs honoring Indian athletes competing in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Mirabai Chanu, an Indian weightlifter who won a silver medal, has been a favourite inspiration.

Chanu is the sixth Indian woman to win a medal in the last 121 years. A collection of works of art commemorating the current Olympic and Silver Medalist Mirabai Chanu has been made on India’s first market for a non-fungible token (NFT).

Various artists, including recent silver medalist Mirabai Chanu, have created a collection of digital art. Chanu, an Indian weightlifter, finished second in her division in the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2020. She is, therefore, the sixth Indian female athlete to win a medal since 1900.

WazirX artists have minted a slew of NFTs of artwork and GIFs to commemorate Chanu’s momentous achievement. Besides well-known cartoonists, Satish Acharya probably produced the most notable of them.

Artwork Sold-Out

It’s titled “A Billion Dreams”. The NFT is a GIF showing Chanu lifting a bar with figures indicating India’s population above her head. A few hours after listing, the artwork sold for 300 WRX ($332.10). And, while that price may not seem like much in comparison to the millions of dollars that other NFTs have fetched, keep in mind that the average yearly income in India is less than $4,000. A further work, entitled “Mirabai Chanu,” was sold for over 58 WRX by digital artist Monika Paul.

Vishakha Singh, Vice President of WazirX NFT Marketplace, said, <blockquote> “The pandemic introduced sports activities to a standstill for many a part of 2020. Nevertheless, the Olympics this year have introduced pleasure not simply to the sports activities fans but in addition to our nation as a [whole]. Not only a week into the occasion and ladies athletes are already making headlines with their wins. To salute and honor these athletes, artists have been creating NFTs which at the moment are accessible on our platform.” <blockquote>

India and WazirX aren’t the only ones playing NFT in the Olympics. BeInCrypto revealed last week that Squad GB became the first Olympic team to build an NFT collection.

Along with designer Ben Sherman, Team GB inked a contract with commerce provider Tokns that will last through the 2022 Winter Olympics. Tokns will provide fans with new opportunities to interact. And engage with their favourite sportsmen. The first NFTs to be produced will honor Max Whitlock and his double-gold medal triumph at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
