Flare Advances 2.0 Vision With Songbird FCC Rollout

The initial implementation of Flare 2.0 architecture, known as Flare Confidential Compute (FCC), is scheduled to be deployed on Songbird, the canary chain of the network, according to an announcement made by Flare. This deployment is contingent upon the community’s acceptance via a governance vote that will take place between July 6 and 14.

By merging Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) with Flare’s data protocols, the FCC is able to expand Flare’s consensus outside its own blockchain. This allows protocols to execute transactions on other blockchains in a safe manner while still retaining Flare’s decentralized verification. Protocol Managed Wallets (PMW), an improved Flare Data Connector (FDC V2), and the foundation for verified confidential computation are all introduced by the Songbird deployment. This brings the architecture that was first detailed as part of the Flare 2.0 vision in March 2025 to a live network.

The debut comes at a time when the XRP Ledger is continuing to solidify its position as a major venue for the issuance of real-world assets. It is drawing the involvement of institutions by providing a quick settlement, low transaction costs, and native compliance features. While the XRPL protocol makes it possible to issue and transport assets, the FCC protocol provides a programmable execution layer that makes it possible for those assets to be used in decentralized applications without the need for users to manually bridge them across networks. 

“XRPL is the layer where assets get issued, while Flare acts as the compute layer that adds smart features and flexibility,” said Hugo Philion, co-founder and CEO of Flare. “What Flare gives to Ripple and to the XRP Ledger is the ability to do more with RWAs once they are issued, which benefits Flare, XRP holders and other applications.”

What the deployment introduces

A confidential computing layer that is put together on top of Flare is referred to be FCC. Through the use of Trusted Execution Environments, it is possible for apps to safely carry out secret computations, maintain cryptographic keys, carry out workloads that need a greater amount of processing, and interface directly with blockchains that are located outside of the system. Flare protocols are able to govern accounts on external networks while ensuring verifiable execution thanks to the generation and storage of private keys inside settings that are secured by hardware.

There are three major components that will go live on Songbird, pending clearance from governance. As of recently, TEE registration, user instructions, and outcome verification are all governed by new smart contracts. Songbird data providers that are participating in the project will communicate instructions, package necessary on-chain and off-chain data, and collectively allow execution via the use of weighted consensus. Trusted Execution Environment machines, which were first run by the Flare Foundation on Google Confidential Compute, are responsible for executing authorized code inside confidential virtual machines and returning signed results for verification.

Instead of depending on a single individual or a centralized infrastructure, Protocol Managed Wallets enable protocols on Flare to build and operate wallets on other blockchains in accordance with the rules that are set by the protocol. When it is first released, PMW will support the XRP Ledger by using keys that are produced and safeguarded inside TEEs.

The Flare Data Connector V2 is a complementary product to PMW. It transitions from batch attestations to verification that is conducted more quickly and individually instead. The FDC V2 acts as the proof layer for Protocol Managed Wallets, which enables programs to independently verify that an operation on an external blockchain took place as anticipated. Any application that is built on Flare may take use of the FDC-V2 update, which is also a generic upgrade to the Flare Data Connector.The combination of PMW and FDC V2 lays the groundwork for the incorporation of XRP-based assets into Flare-based decentralized financial apps. This eliminates the need for users to manually operate across chains.

In addition, the launch sets the foundational structure for confidential computing, which will allow developers to build upon it as the network grows. The same relay, verification, and consensus methods that were introduced in FCC will be used by builders in future versions, which will make it possible for them to implement bespoke Trusted Execution Environment extensions.

The Songbird deployment is the first step of the Flare 2.0 plan, which is for the more comprehensive version. During the bootstrap phase, participating data providers will be reimbursed via a participation pool that is supported by the Flare Foundation in addition to attestation fees. This will take place while the network is gathering operational data in preparation for a permanent incentive scheme. Songbird, which serves as Flare’s canary network, offers a live environment for evaluating the design prior to its deployment on the Flare mainnet.
