This year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar will be sponsored by the cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com. According to an announcement made on Tuesday, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will begin in November and include branding for Crypto.com both inside and outside stadiums. As part of the partnership, the crypto exchange will offer its customers the chance to attend games and win official items.

Reach Mass Global Audience

Crypto.com’s collaborations with other organizations across the globe will help expand FIFA’s games “on a global scale,” according to FIFA’s chief commercial officer, Kay Madati. The Staples Center in Los Angeles has been renamed the Crypto.com Arena for 20 years as part of an agreement struck with the exchange in November. Since its launch, Crypto.com has struck multi-million dollar deals to sponsor the Australian Football League, Formula 1, and Ultimate Fighting Championships.

Since Qatar’s central bank stated and the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority reiterated its prohibition on cryptocurrency trading, including Bitcoin (BTC), in 2018. Crypto.com is expected to attract a more extensive international clientele given soccer’s appeal throughout the globe. For example, the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia drew over 3.5 billion viewers, according to FIFA, with over a billion tuning in to witness France beat Croatia in the championship game.

With the World Cup starting in less than eight months, suspicions of corruption and bribery dating back to the Qatar 2022 bidding process have cast a cloud over the tournament. US prosecutors charged three people with “the payment and receipt of bribes and kickbacks” in connection with FIFA’s selection of nations to host the World Cup in 2018.
