  • Argentina has just released guidelines for blockchain technology adoption.
  • The Dec. 7 document also establishes a national blockchain committee.

Some of the most distinguishing features of blockchain technology are its decentralization, transparency, immutability, and automation. Use applications for these components are almost limitless because of the breadth of their applicability across sectors.

There has been a recent uptick in the number of nations examining how blockchain technology may be used to enhance various government operations. Moreover, Argentina has just released guidelines for blockchain technology adoption.

Implementation in State-run Operations

The Dec. 7 document also establishes a national blockchain committee charged with the duty to “act as an interlocutor in the local blockchain ecosystem promoting the interoperability of blockchain technologies and a good government.”

State agencies and the Public Innovation Secretariat will form the committee to create legislation and infrastructure using blockchain. However, the provided framework does not specifically describe the various groups that are expected to participate in the committee.

The government’s released framework demonstrates a variety of ways in which blockchain technology may assist with purely state-run operations. Given the massive scale of certain government institutions, auditing is the first area where it is predicted to find use. With this in mind, blockchain is offered as a component that will serve dual purposes: first, it would facilitate transparency about the state’s use of public monies, and second, it will consolidate all governmental procedures into a single, unified framework.

The second concern is the proper identification of all citizens. The Argentine government is exploring the potential benefits of blockchain technology for government-issued identity and verification procedures. Using a blockchain-based system, other parties would have easy access to verifying the authenticity of these records.
