Yuga Labs Releases Litepaper After Successful First Trip to ‘Otherside’

Lawsuit Filed Alleging Yuga Labs of Promoting BAYC NFTs With Celebs News
  • Only Otherdeed and “Selected Third-Party Developers” will be able to participate.
  • Yuga Labs, believe interoperability is essential to the ethos of future internet.

Bored Ape Yacht Club’s founders. Yuga Labs have released Otherside, a much-anticipated metaverse game platform. 4300 players, dubbed “Voyagers,” were invited to a tech demo and tour of the immersive, avatar-navigated online platform on Saturday by Yuga Labs, the game’s developers. To join the game, which has not yet launched completely, all Otherside players must take one of these “First Trips” or watch one.

Participants in yesterday’s digital trip to “Biogenic Swamp,” Otherside’s center, all came away with “Otherdeeds,” the digital equivalent of land titles. According to a press statement after yesterday’s Initial Trip, Only Otherdeed and “Selected Third-Party Developers” will be able to participate in the game’s first phase.

Competing Against Industry Giants

Voyager’s Journey is an 11-part story game “surrounding a mysterious Obelisk that has appeared in the Otherside universe,” according to the litepaper. This phase will allow Owners to help build the platform’s key features as a co-developer using the Otherside Development Kit, the platform’s suite of creative tools.

Interoperability: the capacity of digital assets to freely traverse the multiple digital communities or gaming platforms that might one day compose the avatar-navigated metaverse was also reaffirmed in Otherside’s litepaper. Open metaverse advocates, like Yuga Labs, believe interoperability is essential to the ethos of a future internet that is more open to all users. Mega companies like Meta (previously Facebook) may want to keep their metaverse services tightly bound in order to maintain control over users’ data and analytics, as these champions have been vociferous about.

One of Yuga Labs’ co-founders, Gordon Goner, tweeted Friday that Otherside is in direct rivalry with Web2 “giants,” but that “the future will bend toward the open, interoperable metaverse.”
