Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin suggests a temporary pause to global computing power to prepare for superintelligent AI. Considering the current rapid development of AI technology, Buterin forecasts a threat to humanity by superintelligent AI. His concerns include irreversible human disempowerment or doom by superintelligent AI in the near future.
Buterin even came up with a couple of AI safety regulation strategies to prevent or buy some time from AI taking over the human race. He believes superintelligent holds the power to “execute some catastrophically harmful actions.” Accelerating tech development but at the same time, holding our ability to defend by distributing power through decentralization is what Buterin suggests in his article.

One of them is imposing “Liabilities” on users, developers, and deployers who contribute to AI development in adverse or wrong ways. He believes this could force them to focus on building mecha suits for human kind instead of building self-sustaining intelligent life.
Another AI safety regulation strategy suggested by Buterin is a “Soft Pause” to global computing power of around 90-99% for a couple of years. This gives humanity to buy more time to prepare for what is about to come. In addition, this time period can also be used to implement proposals such as requiring registration and hardware location verification.
Being known as a young prodigy, Vitalik Buterin played a critical role in the development of Ethereum. He also contributed to some of the noteworthy projects such as Dark Wallet, Bitcoin Python Libraries, etc as an open-source software developer.
