The Telegram platform has garnered attention from the community, with the arrest of co-founder Pavel Durov. The arrest occurred on Saturday when he arrived in France for allegations related to Telegram’s moderation activities. Several leading community members have expressed their concerns regarding the issue.

Notably, the messaging platform made an official statement on its X account, on Sunday. Telegram stated that it has not breached any industry standards, neither has it indulged in any violations. Thus saying, it denied the allegations of the French police on moderation activities and that the platform failed to curb criminal activities.

Telegram on its X post stated:

“Telegram abides by EU laws, including the Digital Services Act — its moderation is within industry standards and constantly improving.”

Additionally, the Dubai-based company defended Pavel Durov’s innocence. It said that Durov ‘has nothing to hide’ and is a frequent traveler to Europe. Moreover, Telegram clarified that the platform cannot be held responsible for abuse, given the enormous number of its users.

Meanwhile, the platform’s crypto token TON coin showed significant dips during the time of the co-founder’s arrest in France. Furthermore, according to reports, the French police are expected to give an official statement today.

How is Telegram Proceeding Further?

According to reports, the Russian embassy in Paris had requested for consular access to Pavel Durov and asked the French police to protect his rights. However, in its X post, the embassy stated that the government has been avoiding their interactions. Additionally, they have contacted Durov’s lawyer. Telegram also stated that they are waiting for the ‘prompt resolution’ of the situation.

Moreover, as reported by French newspapers, the government has drawn out issues indicating a lack of content moderation on the platform and that it enabled criminal activity. This has led to an increasing controversy and has drawn global attention to the issue.
