Telegram Alters Content Moderation Policies FAQ Post CEO Arrest

Telegram Alters Content Moderation Policies FAQ Post CEO Arrest Market News
  • Telegram now allows users to report illegal content through a “Report” button.
  • CEO Pavel Durov emphasizes Telegram’s commitment to user privacy and transparency.

After the arrest of Pavel Durov, CEO of Telegram in France, for allegedly failing to moderate the app and allowing the spread of illegal content, the platform modified the FAQ page on illegal content moderation. Telegram has altered its chat privacy policies stating that it cannot process requests for private chats.

The main reason for Pavels arrest was focused on alleged issues with the telegram’s content moderation. The authorities claimed that the app was used for money laundering, drug trafficking, and other offenses.

This is a response to the most frequently asked question to the community.  The FAQ page has changed in the last 24 hours. Especially in the section “There’s illegal content on Telegram. How do I take it down?”

And the other question was, “How to report illegal content on the platform”? For which the FAQ earlier page stated, “All Telegram chats and group chats are private amongst their participants. We do not process any requests related to them.”

Instead, it now says:

“All Telegram apps have “Report” buttons that let you flag illegal content for our moderators- in just a few taps. On Telegram for Android, tap the message and select Report, from the menu. Then choose an appropriate reason.”

Durov’s Motive to Improve Telegram’s Content Moderation

Pavel Durov recently showed up in the telegram community after his release. Durov said that they are ready to leave the markets that aren’t compatible with the platform. He stated that the community is not doing it for money but to stay loyal to their principles.

The CEO remarked:

“We take down millions of harmful posts and channels every day. We publish daily transparency reports. We have direct hotlines with NGOs to process urgent moderation requests faster. They are driven by the intention to bring good and defend the basic rights of people, particularly in places where these rights are violated.”

He ended by saying that they have already started the progress and will share further details of the process soon.
