Andrew Bailey, the Governor of the Bank of England (BoE) commented that the Stablecoins should be regulated just like commercial bank money and Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) won’t be ruled away. This is termed with respect to the country that has started exploring digital pound issuance.

Bailey said that the BoE currently faces a systemic banking crisis. Moreover, BoE tries to ensure financial stability in the crypto market. However, the necessity of building financial stability needs robust structures.

Bailey’s Mentions Financial Issues

In Wednesday’s speech at the Institute of International Finance in Washington, Bailey condemned activities on Stablecoins. He said the stablecoin seems to be real fiat currencies but are digital ones. But the Bank of England demands an assured value in all digital money for improvising their financial stability, Bailey added.

In the future, if retail digital money is a part of banking institutions, the inside, and outside money are better not disturbed. Here, Stablecoins are inside money whereas CBDCs are outside money. Bailey said about protecting the inside money for deposits in smaller banks.

Furthermore, as Non-Bank Financial Institutions (NBFI) posted risks to financial stability, there exists a challenge of depth and breadth. Also, the interconnectivity and leverage marks harder and the issues cross-border inherently.

The stablecoin’s stability opted for risks after Terra’s collapse the previous year. The billion-dollar loss made regulators rise questions with respect to the crypto market. Considerably, the UK economy is on its way to exploring digital pounds. This might end up constraint risking since the increase of liquidity buffers of banks and non-banks for strengthening the potential growth of finance investment.
