Square Enix, the creators of Final Fantasy, is doubling down on blockchain game development. The Japanese company’s president, Yosuke Matsuda, issued a letter on Jan. 1 to summarize the year’s most significant successes and outline its 2023 objectives.

Square Enix is a Japanese video game development and publishing firm. The firm is primarily known for the role-playing video game franchises Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts.

Aggressive Investment in Blockchain Games

Matsuda and his team has been making “aggressive investment and business growth efforts” in the investment area of “blockchain entertainment.” It will receive the majority of their attention in the medium future. He suggested that the blockchain industry’s expansion and its intentions to create games based on the technology may benefit from lessons learned and expected future regulation

Matsuda noted, any technology that can withstand “societal tides” will gradually become a part of people’s lives, giving rise to new businesses and growth.

Following the excitement and exhilaration that surrounded NFTs and the metaverse in 2021, 2022 was a year of great volatility in the blockchain-related space.

The letter concluded by saying that Square Enix is currently working on several blockchain games and would be unveiling more during 2023.
