Even as the West worries about Russia’s possible use of cryptocurrencies to avoid sanctions, some Russians are using their Bitcoin (BTC) to aid the people of Ukraine. As Russia continues to assault Ukraine, Pavel Muntyan, creator of Mr. Freeman’s online series, has urged Russians who oppose military action against the nation to unite with its residents.
Russians who wish to aid the people of Ukraine secretly may now do so via a Crypto donation address that Muntyan created on Tuesday and announced on social media. On Sunday, Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office issued a formal warning that Russian citizens who aid Ukrainians during Russia’s “special operation” in Ukraine face 20 years in prison.
Not For Military Purpose
Muntyan is now urging Russians to help individuals who have been harmed due to the military’s activities. Russians may now make anonymous donations to the BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Ethereum, HECO, and Avalanche blockchains using his crypto address.
He made it clear that the money generated would only be utilized to aid the most vulnerable members of society and would not be used for any military purpose. According to the contribution address as of this writing, it has around $1,500 in Ether (ETH) and approximately $350,000 in Tether (USDT).
As Russia’s military incursion into Ukraine continues, the Ukrainian government and many crypto firms have set up several crypto donation channels to help the Ukrainian people. As of Monday, public crypto contributions to the Ukrainian government, military, and charitable organizations totaled around $40 million. Muntyan is also well-known for his backing of opponents of Russian President Vladimir Putin outside of his engagement in crypto.
