Ripple announced that it would contribute money to help those affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria along with other businesses in the cryptocurrency sector. The commitment of $1 million in XRP by Ripple to help NGOs made public on February 15.
According to estimates, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake occurred on February 6 in Turkey and Syria, and the death toll has since surpassed 36,000. The International Rescue Committee, Mercy Corps, CARE, and other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are among the four that the fund supports.
There are more crypto donors besides Ripple. On February 11, Vitalik Buterin, a co-founder of Ethereum, contributed 99 ETH, or about $150,000, to the nonprofit Ahbap. Shortly after, he gave Anka Relief an additional 50 ETH totaling $75,000 in value.
More than $10 million in cryptocurrency contributed by companies, with Binance alone contributing $5 million to the cause. Earlier, donations for earthquake relief and war efforts in Ukraine were made using cryptocurrency. The terrible earthquake in Nepal in 2015 saw the greatest outpouring of solidarity in the form of Bitcoin donations to aid organizations.
