Polkadot Blockchain Academy (PBA), an organization devoted to expanding web3 knowledge, has revealed the first political figure education course in the world. Government representatives and civil servants will get essential knowledge from Blockchain Basics for Policymakers to enable them to implement well-informed crypto policies.
PBA will organize the first institutional Blockchain Basics for Policymakers pilot in Zug, Switzerland. It has been announced that a delegation of UK Members of Parliament, headed by Dr. Lisa Cameron, would be attending the first course. MPs from all of the major political parties in the UK will attend a three-day intensive course on the basics of blockchain technology there; as part of the broader global project, other delegations from other countries are also scheduled to participate.
As a member of parliament from 2015 to 2024 and the founder of the UKUS Crypto Alliance, Dr. Cameron has a wealth of expertise drafting and submitting laws pertaining to blockchain technology and digital assets. Dr. Cameron contributed to the creation of a significant report in 2022 that described the UK’s growth as a Crypto Hub. Andrew Griffiths, the Government City Minister, supported the report, which was well welcomed in Parliament.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom announced an AI action plan this month, committing £14 billion and 13,250 jobs from tech companies throughout the country, indicating the government’s intention to embrace technology.
The moment is right to advance policies that will enable the blockchain sector to thrive as Britain looks to strengthen its reputation as a hub for technological innovation. Attending the Blockchain Basics for Policymakers, the British MP delegation will learn a lot about important topics to think about, key areas for consideration and the use of “guardrails” to give quality controls for AI and autonomous agents, which interact with web3 technology.
Chrissy Hill, CLO and interim COO of Parity Technologies, will also be attending the first institutional pilot of the policymaker course. Polkadot Blockchain Academy is in a unique position to provide top-notch educational resources that will assist elected officials in the UK and other nations in better understanding the technical uses of blockchain technology and how it works in tandem with other cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence.
Dr. Lisa Cameron said:
“Given the prominent role that blockchain technology is poised to play in the UK’s tech sector, it is essential that policymakers are equipped with the knowledge to make informed decisions. Polkadot Blockchain Academy’s inaugural course offers a valuable opportunity for MPs to gain firsthand insights into the real-world applications of web3. I’m pleased to lead this delegation as we engage with experts and explore how blockchain can contribute to innovation and economic growth.”
Chrissy Hill, CLO and interim COO at Parity Technologies, said:
“Policymakers play a crucial role in shaping the future of blockchain, yet have empirically lacked access to structured education on its technical and regulatory foundations. Polkadot Blockchain Academy is committed to bridging this gap, ensuring that decision-makers have the resources they need to craft practical policies that foster innovation while maintaining safeguards. This program represents a significant step toward greater understanding and collaboration between the blockchain industry and the public sector.”
Pauline Cohen Vorms, Co-Founder and CEO at Polkadot Blockchain Academy, added:
“At Polkadot Blockchain Academy, we believe that education is the foundation of meaningful technological progress. In launching this first-of-its-kind program, we are equipping policymakers with the knowledge they need to engage with blockchain technology thoughtfully and effectively.”
MPs will return to Westminster’s corridors after the three-day course with a greater understanding of the potential that blockchain technology offers for global governance, businesses, and individuals.
