- Haliey Welch said she trusted the wrong people

Memecoin scams are not new to the crypto industry. Viral internet memes and personalities have often leveraged their popularity and made a debut as memecoins in the crypto market. However, very few of them turn out to be genuine by offering value to their communities. Popular internet personality Haliey Welch launched HAWK memecoin last year, which couldn’t join the list of genuine tokens.
Haliey Welch recalled her memecoin investigation by the FBI and the SEC in the latest episode of her “Talk Tuah with Haliey Welch” podcast. Welch also mentioned the SEC investigation over her HAWK memecoin scam and that they confiscated her mobile for more than a couple of days for investigation.
Haliey Welch launched her “HAWK” memecoin in 2024, which quickly surged in value, followed by a deep plunge. The token raised speculations of a rug pull scam, but Welch has no idea why the token was plunging.
Haliey Welch Admits She Trusted the Wrong People
Haliey Welch said she was approached by multiple people pitching the idea of launching her own memecoin, and she finally moved forward with one of the offers.
Welch also said that her X account was handled by another company and posted images of her promoting the memecoin. However, she did not name the company due to legal concerns. Even though the FBI and SEC cleared her of any wrongdoing, the 23-year-old internet personality expressed remorse for letting her fans down with the HAWK memecoin mess. She said,
“It makes me feel really bad that they trusted me, and I led them to something that I did not have enough knowledge about. I did not have enough knowledge about crypto to be getting involved with it. And I knew that, but I got talked into it, and I trusted the wrong people.”
Memecoin trading has always been a high-risk and high-reward activity. It is highly important to be extremely cautious before engaging in any memecoin trading activity. Even though the face behind the memecoin is genuine, like Haliey Welch, there are N number of factors that could go wrong in a memecoin trading.
