NASA Astronaut Kalpana Chawla’s Rare Pictures as NFT Collection Released

To mark International Women’s Day, GuardianLink has released an NFT collection honoring Kalpana Chawla, the first Indian-American astronaut to go into space. As the first Indian-origin woman in space, Chawla is a role model for space enthusiasts worldwide. There are 250 NFTs in the collection, 25 copies for each of the ten images. These previously unseen images will have Kalpana Chawla’s quotes accompanied by each picture.

Kalpana Chawla was born on March 17, 1962, and she initially flew aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia in 1997. She was a mission specialist and the principal operator of the robotic arm. The final flight of the Space Shuttle Columbia, STS-107, was her second mission.

Proceeds Will be Donated to Charity

On the Space Shuttle Columbia accident when the ship disintegrated during its re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere, Chawla was one of seven crew members who perished. Nevertheless, the Congressional Space Medal of Honor was bestowed upon her posthumously. Moreover, her memory lives on in the form of numerous honorary street and university names in her honor. In addition, she is hailed as a space hero across the world. As Jean-Pierre Harrison reflected on his wife’s life. He recalled how she battled to be the first Indian-American in space with pure determination and desire.

Jean-Pierre Harrison stated:

“In recognition of Kalpana’s achievements, I have approved the release of NFTs consisting of rare and previously unseen photographs of moments from her life. Proceeds from this sale will be donated to an Indian charity with an outstanding record of supporting and educating children from some of India’s poorest areas.”
