Microsoft’s Minecraft and Mojang Studio Rules Out NFT

Microsoft’s Minecraft and Mojang Studio Rules Out NFT NFT News
  • Minecraft blocked NFTs and blockchain technology.
  • New changes don’t affect the majority of Minecraft users.

Microsoft-owned Minecraft video game banned non-fungible tokens (NFT) from its game. On Wednesday, Mojang Studios, the developer of Minecraft, said it would avoid the integration of non-fungible tokens, or NFTs with blockchain technology altogether.

Mojang stated :

To ensure that Minecraft players have a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated inside our client and server applications.

According to Mojang, some independent Minecraft servers permit the use of NFTs to represent in-game objects or to reward players with NFTs. The company also blasted NFTs “speculative pricing” and “investment mentality,” which detract from the gaming experience and support profit-seeking at the expense of the games long term playability. In order to justify the prohibition, it also cited rug-pulls involving a few  third- party NFT integrations as well as NFT wash trading or fraudulent price manipulation.

Minecraft’s New Rules

The new guidelines prohibit Minecraft’s client and server applications from integrating with third-party blockchain solutions. Additionally, they cannot be used to make NFTs linked to any type of in-game material, such as worlds, skins, persona items, or other mods. Although the changes don’t affect the majority of Minecraft players, they are expected to have a big impact on a small group of people who are also making money from in-game NFTs.

The Web3 game project NFT Worlds, which focuses on third-party blockchain and NFT Minecraft integrations, has suffered the most as a result of the announcement of Microcraft. Although the project’s developers claim they won’t be leaving the community, prices for the project’s NFTs fell by 70% as a result of the revelation.
