There are plans to integrate Bitcoin and Ethereum into The Internet Computer before the end of the year, according to a roadmap published by The Internet Computer for 2022 and beyond.
Using the Internet Computer’s public blockchain and protocol, smart contracts and decentralized apps may be installed on the blockchain directly by developers. In the spring of 2021, Dfinity, a Zurich-based organization, debuted the project after years of development.
Eliminate Bridge Requirement
As part of Dfinity’s “Chromium Satoshi Release” scheduled for Q1 2022, Bitcoin integration will be made available directly. It will eliminate the requirement for a bridge, which might expose the Bitcoin blockchain to bad actors, by adding smart contracts to the blockchain via “Chain Key cryptography.”
The #ICP 🤝 #BTC integration will prompt a new wave of DeFi applications built to leverage the world’s largest cryptocurrency.

Diego Prats, director of product at Dfinity, wrote:
“Smart contracts on the Internet Computer will be able to hold, send and receive Bitcoin, without the need for private keys.”
Toward the end of December, Dfinity made it possible for smart contracts (referred to as “Canisters” in the ecosystem) to keep their own ICP token balances. Currently, the ICP can process 250,000 requests per second, with a transaction completion time of one to two seconds.
The planned Polychain Capital-backed DEX InfinitySwap looks to be capitalizing on this future Bitcoin integration. According to Lee, consumers would utilize their Bitcoin (BTC) as a kind of liquid asset. According to CoinMarketCap, the Internet Computer price today is $19.10 USD with a 24-hour trading volume of $212,364,654 USD. Internet Computer is down 4.41% in the last 24 hours.
