Indian State Governor’s Twitter Hacked To Promote XRP Scam

Editors News
  • The hacker posted phoney adverts showcasing Ripple, the crypto business behind XRP.
  • The account was used to publish dozens of tweets supporting the fraud.

After Robinhood and Azuki, hackers have now targeted the account of an Indian government official in an effort to spread their cryptocurrency hoax. Tuesday afternoon around 4 PM (EST), the official account of Madhya Pradesh’s governor began reacting to a flurry of tweets that claimed Ripple Labs CEO Brad Garlinghouse had ordered an XRP airdrop. All of the postings agree that the XRP cryptocurrency is “ready to huge PUMP,” and the posts are identical.

As a result, the Indian official became yet another target of attackers who were deliberately flooding social media with phoney adverts showcasing Ripple, the cryptocurrency business that utilizes XRP, and its CEO Brad Garlinghouse.

Similar Hacks Reported Earlier

Furthermore, the hack probably happened in the last 12 hours. In that time, the hackers have published dozens of tweets supporting the fraud on behalf of an Indian official, and some of those tweets received hundreds of thousands of views.

Notably, in early February, another official’s account was hacked, this time in France, in order to promote a phoney XRP airdrop from Ripple.

The Indian embassy’s account in Oman has been in a similar gherkin in the past. This indicates that authorities and those who manage their accounts do not provide appropriate attention to security and authentication, leaving them vulnerable to intrusion.

Moreover, the scam remarks are joined by several comments praising the fraudsters for the news; given that the replies are similarly identical, it’s probable that all accounts involved are either hacked or bot accounts built explicitly for the purpose.
