Elon Musk’s X Lets U.S. Users Trade Stocks and Crypto via Cashtags

Elon Musk’s X Lets U.S. Users Trade Stocks and Crypto via Cashtags Market News
  • Elon Musk’s X now lets U.S. users trade Bitcoin, crypto and stocks through Cashtags via connected exchanges and brokerages.
  • Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Interactive Brokers and Moomoo are among the initial partners, while trades are executed on their platforms.

X has launched a new Cashtag Partner Program in the United States, allowing users to move from stock and cryptocurrency discussions on the platform to trading through a group of external exchanges and brokerages.

The program, launched on September 15, adds a “Trade” button to supported Cashtag pages. Users can tap tickers such as $BTC, $ETH or stock symbols to view market information, price charts and related posts, then select a participating trading platform.

The initial partners are Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Interactive Brokers and Moomoo. The lineup covers both cryptocurrency and traditional financial assets, giving users different routes depending on the asset and platform they choose.

X Connects Market Discussions With Trading Platforms

The new feature builds on X’s existing Cashtag system, which turns ticker symbols into interactive pages containing market data and conversations around an asset.

Under the new setup, users who want to trade can select the “Trade” option and choose one of the participating partners. They are then directed to the partner’s website or mobile application, where they can log in or create an account and complete the transaction.

X itself does not execute the order. The selected exchange or brokerage remains responsible for the actual trade. Kraken, for example, said users are taken from the Cashtag page to its platform to complete the transaction, while Interactive Brokers said users can use the integration to research an asset or place a trade.

The feature is currently available to U.S.-based users, with asset availability depending on the individual partner and applicable eligibility requirements. Interactive Brokers also confirmed that its integration supports stock and crypto tickers, including examples such as $AAPL and $BTC.

For crypto users, Kraken said its integration covers nearly 2,500 assets across its centralized and decentralized trading offerings. Meanwhile, Gemini said its initial X connection includes stocks and five cryptocurrencies: ZEC, HYPE, BTC, ETH and SOL.

The launch gives X users a shorter path from discovering an asset and following its discussion on the timeline to reaching a trading platform, while leaving account management and trade execution with the participating financial companies.
