Less than two days after the hack of Polygon’s Discord, hackers have now impacted Layer 2 blockchain ZKsync’s and Layer-1 network Avalanche’s official servers. The official Avalanche account reported a hacked Discord server and warned users not to engage with or click on any links in a message to X on August 25.
Members of the Avalanche Discord on X provided images showing that the attackers set up many fake “distribution” schemes. This was in order to trick others into thinking they could get free Avalanche (AVAX) tokens.
Ben Well, the community lead for Avalanche, emailed an hour later to say that the team had “found” and fixed the problem. He went on to say that the crew was hard at work getting the server back up and running.
Back-to Back Discord Exploit
On the other hand, it was allegedly just one hour after the Avalanche vulnerability that the official ZkSync Discord was also infiltrated. The “round 2 airdrop” scam, in which customers were promised free ZK tokens, was once again promoted by hackers. Although ZkSync has not addressed the vulnerability on X, a number of team members have brought attention to the breach on Discord.
Hackers hijacked the official Polygon Discord in a similar way and sent malicious links around the server. Less than 48 hours later, Avalanche and zkSync were attacked.
Earlier, officials from Polygon’s information security team, led by Mudit Gupta, have verified the compromise. And asked that Discord members not click on any links posted there until the issue is fixed. However, the team later revealed that the issue has been resolved. These latest assaults are only the latest in a long line of such Discord exploits.
