Meanwhile, cryptocurrency scams remain unfettered as reports suggest. A recent announcement by on-chain informant Dark Web Informer revealed that hackers have stolen users’ information. Leading exchanges, Binance and Gemini have seen a compromisation of data as per the report. 

Furthermore, the Dark web hackers seemed to have gained access to full names, email addresses, phone numbers, and locations of over 100K users. This has caused quite the alarm in the community over the past few hours. 

Secondly, as aforementioned, there seems to be a sharp rise in cryptocurrency scams in the past two months. Towards the end of 2024, while attention averted to surging market activity, hacks showed a brief dull. Recent incidents suggest that security concerns have returned to the sector. 

How Do the Dark Web Hackers Plan to Use Binance & Gemini Data? 

According to sources, the dark web hackers are marketing the users’ info for several purposes. These include marketing, fraud and even recovery scams. This news has disrupted the community with concerns, as misuse of user information can lead to negative outcomes. 

Although, the involved exchanges have not commented on the issue as of the time of writing. Recently, the Bybit hack, has been one of the largest cryptocurrency hacks in the past year. With more than a billion dollars worth of funds lost, it caused quite the turmoil in the community. 

Several members believe the Lazarus group to be behind the Bybit hack. Meanwhile, reports of cryptocurrency hackers targeting crypto job seekers have also reached the sector. Leading members have warned traders to be cautious with hackers enhancing their tactics every day.
