Australia’s Largest Airline Qantas Announces NFT Collection for Flyers

NFT News
  • The launch is expected for mid-2022, according to the release.
  • Additional perks will be given out in addition to Qantas Points.

It wasn’t until last year that the notion of NFTs became widely known, even though it has been around since 2014. In a similar way to DeFi, NFTs are pulling consumers into the crypto market—with puzzle artwork, profitable games, and even some practical applications.

NFT drops are coming to Qantas frequent flyer members, the airline said recently. As NFTs have migrated to other sectors, such as music or even Instagram, this is not unexpected. No, Qantas isn’t the first airline to go into non-stop flights.

Adoption of NFT Spreads

AirBaltic was the first airline to announce the release of its NFT collection, and Qantas Airlines has now followed suit. The launch is expected for mid-2022, according to the release. In addition, Qantas NFTs will reward their first customers with Qantas Points, which can be used for travel tickets. Although the announcement doesn’t go into great depth.

The airline said:

“with more exciting future benefits for Qantas NFT holders underway.”

Additional perks will be given out in addition to Qantas Points, as stated in the official statement. In addition, NFTs will be issued with zero emissions, utilizing low carbon platforms and carbon offsetting by Qantas, the business announced, acknowledging the negative environmental impacts of minting NFTs.

AirBaltic, a Latvian carrier, was the first to provide an NFT collection when it did so in February 2021. Their NFT series is based on local landmarks and serves as a tourist marketing tool. For the 100th anniversary of Latvia’s independence in 2018, airBaltic surveyed Latvians’ favorite towns and cities. Kuldiga was the name given to the company’s Airbus A220-300 fleet due to the research.
